Food Styling: The Picture-Perfect Soup

Written by Cook Kosher on Tuesday, 24 January 2012. Posted in Tips And Tricks

Who hasn't wondered how food stylist prepare food? If you're anything like us, you examine food photographs and try to imagine how the dish was put together.

Wonder no more. CookKosher's photographer and food stylist got together to show how you can present a simple minestrone soup in a picture-perfect fashion. You can, of course, use the same idea for any soup of your liking!

A picture says a thousand words, so we'll let the photos talk for themselves:

Start off with round rolls. Choose crusty ones, that will hold up with the soup inside. Slice off a bit of the top for the cover, and hallow out the inside. Toast in the oven until it gets crusty and golden brown.

Slice scallions into strips and with a peeler, peel some strips of carrots.

Place the strips of vegetables in a bowl of cold ice water. Let sit for 5 minutes.

On a silpat mat, place tablespoons of hard shredded cheese and bake at 350F for approximately 4 minutes. You want to make sure it doesn't burn. Let cool completely before peeling it off the mat.

Fill the toasted rolls with soup. Top with the cheese crisp and garnish with the vegetables.

Voila!

Love it!! The soup won't make the bread soggy and leak? I wanted to use it for a sheva berachos

I love this idea: and since I'm a big fan of miniaturising everything: these would also look sooo cute mini, in little dinner rolls for small servings! for a sheva brachos or charity function where you need a lot of them: mini might be a good idea.
