Tisha B'Av

Written by Cook Kosher on Monday, 08 August 2011. Posted in Food Mood

Tisha B'Av, the 9th day of the month of Av, is an annual fast day. The fast commemorates the destruction of both the First Temple and Second Temple in Jerusalem. Many other terrible tragedies occurred on this day. Both the Jewish expulsion from Spain in 1492 and the beginning of World War I started on the Tisha B'Av. Accordingly it is the saddest day in the Jewish calendar.

However, we still need to eat before and after the fast and we live to serve.

Some of our picks for before or after the fast:

Scrumptious vegetable soup

Cauliflower Soup

Milichig vegetable soup

Tomato & Garlic Scrambled Eggs

Vegetable pita pizza

Vegetable and cheese filled pasta shells

Best Ever Macaroni & Cheese

Healthy Tuna Patties

Easy, quick and yummy Shakshuka

Salmon Knishes

Is the day too long? Are your kids going out of their mind?

Try Mimi's recipe of playdough to keep the kids busy.

Have your teens bake no mixer cookies, cookies and more cookies

Spend some time in our community disscussing food on fast days

And of course add recipes. We can always use craft recipes, breads, rolls and more desserts.

Have an easy fast and may we merit to see the coming of Moshiach!
