What are the Nine Days? For ashkenazim that grew up with the concept nine days, it's kinda strange to have the question asked. Basically the nine days are the first 9 days of the month of Av culminating with the fast of Tisha B'av. The Nine Days inaugurates an even greater level of communal and personal mourning in recognition of the many tragedies and calamities that befell the Jewish people at this time. As part of the mourning we refrain from eating meat and drinking wine. However, we all still need to eat, so here is a selection of pastas, fish and food ideas to fill the void.
