Delicious and heavenly very simple to make.

    3 loaves

  • jilldushey

  • - DOUGH:

  • 3 (4 oz) sticks butter

  • 7 cup flour

  • ½ cup sugar

  • 2 oz yeast diluted in

  • ½ cup warm water

  • ½ cup orange juice

  • 3 eggs

  • 2 egg whites (reserve the yolks for the filling)

  • 2 tsp salt

  • - FILLING:

  • 3 (8 oz) j&j whipped cream cheese

  • 3 yolks

  • 1½ cup sugar

  • 1 Tbsp vanilla sugar

  • - CRUMBS:

  • 1¼ cup sugar

  • 1 cup flour

  • 1½ Tbsp vanilla sugar

  • 1 (4 oz) stick butter

  1. In a bowl first dilute the yeast with warm water then add rest of ingredients to form a dough. You can make the entire dough by hand without mixer its pretty simple. Let rise for one hour.

  2. For the filling combine the cream cheese, yolks , sugar and v. sugar . divide into 3 soup bowl plates and freeze separately for 1 hr. otherwise the filling is to runny to spread on dough.

  3. Combine sugar , flour , v. sugar and stick butter to form crumbs. Place some crumbs on bottom of the pans and the rest on top of the bobka after you egg the top

  4. Divide the dough into three parts. Roll out each part into a rectangle. Smear one part of the filling. Roll up jelly roll style. Twist and place into a loaf pan (ontop of crumbs). Repeat with the other two parts. It will make 3 babkas.

  5. Egg the tops and place the remaining crumbs on top.

  6. Bake at 350F.

After making a different recipe last year, I am going back to this recipe...
Everyone loved it! It was moist, had just enough cheese filling and froze well.
