This is a wonderful yeast dough that is layered with margarine (you can substitute butter),folded over and rolled into a crescent shape. This recipe is made with juice to keep it Mezonos. It is delicious served plain with butter or cream cheese. You can add any filling inside or a jam glaze on the outside for different variations. This recipe has a flakier taste, similar to a French croissant. I like to make this for before and after a fast. It freezes very well.

RECIPE

INGREDIENTS
5 cup Flour
4 oz margarine-1 stick
1½ oz fresh yeast
4 eggs
1 cup orange juice
½ cup sugar
¾ tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla sugar
- filling:
1 cup flour
12 oz margarine-3 sticks
Mix in mixer dry ingredients- flour, salt, yeast, and sugar. Add 1 stick margarine, eggs and orange juice. Mix well. Add more flour if dough is too sticky.
Place in floured bowl and let rise 1/2 hour covered.
Roll out dough into a rectangle shape. Smear 3/4 of filling(3 sticks margarine plus 1 cup flour mixed) and fold dough over in a third. Refrigerate a few hours or overnight.
Divide dough into 4 parts. Roll each out into a circle. Smear a little of filling unto each circle-just not in the center.
Cut each circle into 8 or 16 pieces-depending on size you want. Roll up each, from thicker part to thinner part. Shape into moon shape.
Cover and let rise for 1/2 hour. This can be brushed with an egg wash or can be baked without the egg wash. I like them shiny, so I egg wash it. You can add any toppings-sesame,poppy or bake plain.
Bake at 350 for 20 minutes-until brown.
