I must have a silpat silicon mat, I use it for everything. Some people think that baking paper will work instead of a silicon mat but you can't compare. If I make oven fries on the mat it bakes on both sides. If I make cookies it bakes the bottom evenly! It is the best addition to my kitchen

I couldn't live without my oven timer. I know it sounds goofy but I'd never remember to take anything out in time if I didn't use it.

I am very attached to my Tupperware Rolling Mat. I bought it a long time ago and I can't bake any recipe that calls for dough, without it. The dough rolls out great and there are markings showing inches, lines, and round frames. It's so easy to roll out round shapes and cut straight lines. Love this gadget!

I agree. Cakes would burn if not for my timer. My chicken mallet/pounder comes in second! Nothing beats stress as much as pounding chicken breast.

I don't have a malet and never got around to getting one so I just use a square olive oil glass bottle. I cover the chicken with cling wrap and pound away, a good trick but I need to get a mallet.

I love my metal cookie spatula and the Microplane zester that we have in the kitchen. You can grate whole nutmeg, citrus zest, garlic cloves, fresh ginger, cinnamon sticks, chocolate...

The zester is super great for adding loads of flavor to any dish, and since I don't have my own pastry mats yet, the spatula is really good for scraping stuff up!

Just got myself a new gadget in time to make donuts. Thermometer! Yup, it attaches to the pot and tells me the exact degree of the oil. I can't believe how great this is and why I didn't get this sooner. My donuts came out perfect thanks to this and cook kosher's recipe. They weren't oily! I used this for egg rolls too. No more guesswork and staring at the pot of oil and testing the oil! This gadget was only a couple of dollars. I keep thinking of things to make just to use this. LOVE IT!

Oh, I am madly in love with the Vidalia chopper. It comes with 2 sizes (the progressive Co. is a bit cheaper but has only smaller blade) and I can honestly say I use it almost EVERY day (who doesn't use diced onion for supper? ). The smaller blade dices vegetables perfectly even, such as peppers, celery, carrots etc.. I use the larger blade mostly when chopping apples and other fruit. I purchased one of these for each of my married children. And have since purchased 2 more for Pesach as well. The most important tip is to cut the vegetable or fruit vertically (top to bottom) NOT across. That makes a big difference to the ease of the chopper.

Wow this thread is inspiring me to go to a kitchenware store and spend money I don't have, lol. I'm not big on the gadgets... yet... simply because I never got around to having any.

I do have a stick blender that I use fairly often. After that the closest I come to gadgetry is maybe a knife.

I agree Knaidel, a good knife in the kitchen makes all the difference.

Obviously I love all of the typical stuff, like my Kitchen Aid 6 qt mixer and my huge global chef knife (crazy expensive but ohmygosh amazing!). I think the thing I love most that you don't hear about so much is the simple wire whisk. I can't tell you how many times it has saved me from pulling out my mixer. Plus, salad dressings made with a whisk are a whole different ball game from those mixed with a fork.

I'm a little late to the party here, but I just saw a similar survey on FB, and it was enlightening to read the responses. I have a mini-wire wisk I use almost every day. I whisk up a little bit of dressing or corn starch into a little water, etc. I love silicone spatulas also, and especially the mini version that scoops into jars and little bowls.

i love my silicone brush for basting my challah dough. all the other ones tend to flatten the dough but this one is light as a feather! try it, you'll see the difference right away.
