Tu B'shvat Party

Written by Whisk (Ami Magazine) on Monday, 06 February 2012. Posted in Table Toppers

Heshy Jay of Scoop & Company created this Tu B’shvat table special for Whisk readers — but, he says, it’s not so hard to bring special touches to your own table to enhance your holiday.

This Scoop Tu B’shvat floral arrangement is a lush mix of fresh fruit and flowers,
including persimmons, oranges with the leaf attached (currently in season and available in supermarkets), magnolia leaves, red grapes, hydrangeas, different types of orchids including rust and chocolate cymbidium orchids, tiger vandas, and mango calalilies.
On each plate, bear grass is tied in a loop and secured with floral wire. Dates on a stem are inserted through the loop, however, you can use loose dates or any fruit for your own presentation.

A Sweet Salad

Combine baby spinach, slivered red onions, and pomegranate seeds. Toast ramen noodles (break them apart) with slivered almonds or pecans. Add to salad. Dress with soy sauce, rice vinegar, and sugar.

The Sorbet Trio

I love Ciao Bello sorbet—and they have perfect flavors for Tu B'shvat that feature unique fruits, such as passion fruit, blood orange, and prickly pear. Use a melon baller to artfully arrange scoops of sorbet in glasses. You can add a cherry sauce, and garnish with fresh mint and pomegranate seeds.

Honey Citrus Apple Cider

A drink that’s perfect for winter: In a saucepan over medium heat, add store-bought apple cider, a couple tablespoons of honey, and slices of mandarin orange or kumquats. bring to a boil. remove from heat and serve. use a cinnamon stick as a mixer and garnish with a kumquat (slice a small slit in the fruit to allow it to rest on the edge of the glass).
