Shabbos Table Setting

Celebrating birthdays are always fun when the entire family gets together. Lucky for us kids, my parents were born a day apart and we get to celebrate by throwing one party for both of them.

This year we decided to honor my parents by surprising them with the entire family gathering for a memorable Shabbos. Shabbos is a really beautiful time every week, but so much more when all the siblings eat at one table and my brothers sing together.  One of the great things about celebrating Shabbos birthdays is that you don’t need much entertainment. The joy my parents had watching their children and grandchildren interact gave them tremendous pride & happiness.

We started off by preparing an opulent Shabbos table fit for a king and queen. In this case I went for the monochromic look. White was the color with gold accents. I love candles and flowers. At table setting, it’s the flowers that set the mood and party flavor. Use simple vases; shape doesn’t matter as long as they are all clear. Then line them across the table and you’ve got yourself a festive table.

It’s all about the layering. Start with a beautiful starched white tablecloth. The starch gives the crisp and clean look. On that layer, gold charges, white dinner plates, napkins and bowl. To add the personal touch we placed a custom chocolate in the center of each bowl.

The napkins are disposable and can be bought in all the letters of the alphabet. I picked these up at my local party good store. The initial on the napkin and a bentcher next to each setting personalizes it even further.

On a side note: To my parents if you are reading this. We had a wonderful time over the entire weekend and may we continue celebrating many more birthdays together.
