With Rosh Hashana approaching many like to serve pomegrantes as a symbol of increasing good deeds as numerous as the pomegranate seeds.
Pomegranate seeds are sweet, juicy, bursting with flavor and good for you. It's a great way to add flavor, coloring or a crunch to a lettuce salad, fruit salad or as a garnish for desserts and ice creams. Best of all it's tasty on its own. Prepare a bowl of pomegranate seed on the counter and watch how quickly it get eaten.
Pomegranates are typically in season between September to February. When choosing the fruit bear in mind that the heavier the pomegranate is the juicier it will be.
Think it's a messy task? Are you worried the juice will stain your cloths. Follow directions below for a the quick and easy way to deseed the pomegranate.
Disclaimer: There are many many ways to do it and we can argue which way is best. Ideally you should remove the crown from the fruit and score it like you would be scoring an orange. Then you would submerge it in water and break it open. The photos below are what I find the easiest and that's the way i do it. Please share if you have any tips or ideas to make it easier.
How to deseed a pomegranate:
1. Slice the pomegranate in 4 sections.
2. Place a section of the pomegranate in a bowl of water.
3. Roll out the arils (seeds) out with your fingers.
4. Remove the pith that floats to the top with the strainer.
5. Strain out the water and enjoy your pomegranate seeds.
