What are the Nine Days? For ashkenazim that grew up with the concept nine days, it's kinda strange to have the question asked. Basically the nine days are the first 9 days of the month of Av culminating with the fast of Tisha B'av. The Nine Days inaugurates an even greater level of communal and personal mourning in recognition of the many tragedies and calamities that befell the Jewish people at this time. As part of the mourning we refrain from eating meat and drinking wine. However, we all still need to eat, so here is a selection of pastas, fish and food ideas to fill the void.

Another great option for the nine days are cheese blintzes, cheese latkes, potato blintzes, all kinds of soups and of course homemade rolls, croissants... Recipe #583 which a cheese blintze soufflé is really a terrific option. What is so great is that if you are lazy, you can use any store bought cheese blintzes and the recipe still comes out delicious. Of course, homemade blintzes are always the tastiest. Add a soup to this and you have a fab meal.
