  • Cookeasy

  • Yenta

INGREDIENTS

  • ¼-½ cup oil

  • ½ cup white sugar

  • ½ cup dark brown sugar

  • 1 egg

  • 1 tsp vanilla essence

  • ½ tsp baking soda

  • ½ tsp salt

  • 1½ cup flour

  • ½ pkt chocolate chips

  1. Pour white and brown sugar in bowl with baking soda, salt, vanilla essence and egg.

  2. Mix with spoon.

  3. Slowly add flour and continue mixing. At this stage you might prefer to mix with hands.

  4. Add 1/4 cup oil.The batter should be crumble like so add oil slowly making sure batter doesnt become moist .

  5. Add chocolate chips.

  6. Divide mixture into 2 oblong greased containers. I use the silver foil - long but narrow.

  7. Place in pre-heated oven on 180C (350F) for 20 mins exactly. The batter might look too soft but it hardens when cooled. Immediately cut bar like peices whilst cake is still hot. Once cooled separate each choc chip bar and store.

My husband makes a yahrtzeit kiddush first day Succos. I made these to have on hand for the minyan in our succah, and they were the first treat eaten. Not a crumb survived. That being said, I would add to the instructions a bit. I baked these in an 8x8 disposable aluminum pan. When I was ready to cut them, I popped the whole thing onto a cutting board and sliced them with a chef's knife. I made my bars about 1/2" by 2". I was serving several other items, otherwise it would not have been enough. The other reviewers' suggestions to double it is good advice. These were easy to make and delicious.

Baking temperature is in celsius (I'm guessing). At 180 F for 20 minutes they were raw.
The taste is very good, I may just eat the entire pan myself.

ETA: I've also made these as cookies and baked them for 9 minutes.
For a really quick recipe I've also mixed them in a plastic bag - not making a spoon or bowl dirty and they were fantastic with no mess.
