This dish is basic and wholesome, yet oh so delicious. It will make your house smell good too. I make it as Friday night or yom tov side dish. Recently, I've been using it for weeknite suppers, paired with either chicken or fish. It is a hit with both adults and kids of all ages.

INGREDIENTS













  • 1 Pkg Farfel










  • 3 Tbsp oil for saute'ing










  • 2 onions










  • 8 oz Sliced fresh or canned mushrooms










  • 5 cup boiling water










  • 2 tsp salt










  • ΒΌ tsp pepper










  1. dice and saute' onions until brown



  2. add mushrooms and stir a bit



  3. pour in farfel and stir at one minute intervals until brown



  4. pour in 5 cups of boiling water, or add 5 cups of cold water and bring to a boil



  5. add salt and pepper



  6. lower flame and simmer while covered, until all water is absorbed, (approximately 20-30 minutes) mixing occasionally
