INGREDIENTS

  • 4 Tbsp quick rise dry yeast

  • ¼ cup warm water

  • 1 tsp sugar

  • 1 cup almond milk

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1 eggs

  • ½ cup margarine (melted)

  • 10 cup + flour

  • 1 Tbsp oil for brushing

  • 8 cup oil for frying

  • 2 cup whole cranberries

  • 1 cup applesauce

  • ½ tsp allspice

  • ½ tsp nutmeg

  • ½ tsp cinnamon

  • ½ cup apple butter

  • 1 cup dried berries of choice

  • 1 cup trail mix of choice

  • 24 candy eyes

  • 9 candles for each turkey

  1. In large bowl stir yeast, water and sugar and let stand for 3 minutes or until it bubbles. Beat in sugar, margarine, eggs, salt , sugar , almond milk, and 2 cups of flour. Keep adding flour until dough is no longer sticky. Knead for 5 minutes and gradually add more flour as needed to reach a desired consistency much like a bread dough. Brush with oil and cover with a damp cloth and let the dough rise for 20 minutes.

  2. Meanwhile while dough is rising bring cranberries, sugar, applesauce, allspice, nutmeg and cinnamon to a simmer. Simmer for 15 minutes. Remove from heat, stir and mash cranberries. Let jam stand to thicken.

  3. While cran-apple jam is cooling, heat oil until it snaps with a drop of water. (about 5 minutes)

  4. While oil is heating make 1-1/2 inch tall circles of the desired size for your donuts.

  5. Fry each donut by carefully dropping them into the hot oil until they are a amber golden brown. Carefully remove and place on to a paper towel lined plate to drain excess oil. Let cool for 5 minutes.

  6. While the donuts are cooling fill a sandwich bag with jam and cut one of the bottom of the bag's corner. Poke holes in the donuts and fill them with the jam by squeezing the jam through the cut corner.

  7. Spread apple butter on top of the donuts and decorate with berries, trail mix, candy eyes and candles to make them look like turkeys.

  8. Light each of the 9 candles and gobble, gobble!
