this is is great recipe to serve as an appetizer on yom tov or at a simcha. kids love it too. It's got the cruchy green beans combined with the sweetly flavored deli. the pretty colors enhance its presentation especially if its served on white dishes. It's really impressive served individually but still looks great served in a large serving dish. Just a note= to keep the crunch of the bread crumbs keep prepared ingredients separate until you are ready to serve it. bon appetit!

  • 2 lb string beans, ends trimmed

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 2 large onions

  • ¾ cup flavored bread crumbs

  • 1 whole deli of your choice, cubed small

  • 10 oz sweet and sour duck sauce

  1. blanch green beans in salted water and put to side

  2. saute onions in oil taking care not to let them burn, just brown lightly. remove from pan with slotted spoon and place on top of green beans.

  3. brown the flavored bread crumbs in pan with any remaining oil. adding more oil, a tsp at a time if necessary. watch carefully and stir regularly so you brown the crumbs and don't burn them. Remove from heat and keep at the side until ready to serve.

  4. bring duck sauce to a boil and then lower flame, add cubed deli and cover. cook on low flame for 10 to 15 min and keep mixture warm until ready serve. (You can lower flame as much as possible and leave it there until ready to plate.)

  5. to serve: layer green beans with onions and bread crumbs. mix well. place in serving bowl or individual plates . pour duck sauce-deli mixture over green beans. do not remix and serve immediately.
