In seminary, Onion board was always served on mondays. It was one of the only days I ate the schools lunch. You can make recipe Homotzie by substituting water for the grape juice and increasing the sugar by 1/4 cup.

INGREDIENTS













  • 2 large onion










  • ½ cup oil, divided










  • 2¼ tsp dry yeast










  • 3 oz warm water










  • ⅛ cup sugar










  • 4 cup flour










  • 1 egg










  • 7 oz white grape juice










  • 1 tsp salt










  • - poppy seeds and kosher salt, for topping










  1. Peel and slice the onions. Saute in 1/4 cup oil until golden brown.



  2. Proof yeast in the water. Add the sugar, flour, oil, egg and grape juice and salt. Mix to form a smooth dough.



  3. Line a baking sheet with baking paper. Press the dough onto the lined baking sheet. Poke holes with a fork.



  4. Spread out the sauteed onions. Top with poppy seeds and kosher salt.



  5. Bake at 350F for 35 minutes.
