I use my bread machine to make the dough. It makes 3 large challahs. Unfortunately you can't take challah from that!! Its so easy, you just put in all the ingredients and approx. 1 and half hour later you have perfectly risen dough every time.

INGREDIENTS













  • 18 oz Water










  • 8 cup Strong White Flour










  • 1½ Tbsp Salt










  • 6 Tbsp Sugar










  • ⅜ cup Oil










  • 1½ oz Fresh yeast or










  • 2 (7 gram) Packets Dry yeast










  1. Put all ingredients in bread machine bowl in correct order.



  2. Set machine to dough cycle.



  3. When cycle ends take out the dough and divide into 3 parts. Each part should be divided and rolled into 6 strands. Braid the challah.



  4. Let rise an additional 30 minutes. Brush with a beaten egg and sprinkle with sesame seeds or poppy.



  5. Bake 25 - 30 minutes in preheated oven 375F.

Was looking for a water challah recipe and decided to try this out. I don't have a bread machine so I made it in my mixer. I used 1/2 cup less flour and added a bit of water. Otherwise kept everything else the same. Made 2 large challahs. It was delicious, flavorful and everyone enjoyed it very much. Thank you.
