
This side dish is a great side dish for Friday night meals. It freezes very well so you can prepare it in advance and freeze in portion sizes. Remove from freezer and defrost on the counter. Originally from the Silver Spoon Cookbook- Kosher cooking for the discerning palate.

INGREDIENTS
1 onion, diced
3 tbsp oil
2 (16 oz) packages shredded red cabbage
2-3 red or green apples, grated
¼ cup water
¼ cup sugar
¼ cup lemon juice
- salt and pepper, to taste
Heat oil and saute diced onion over low heat.
When the onions are soft add the shredded cabbage. Saute for 15 minutes on a low flame.
Add the grated apples. Combine water and the remaining ingredients. Add to the cabbage.
Cook for an additional 20-25 minutes.
Serve warm.
