The base for those beautiful iced cookies. I like to create shapes and while still quite hot poke two holes in the cookie with a straw - then when cooled I thread a ribbon through the holes and send them for kiddushim as teddybears with corresponding ribbons, or square tefillin for barmitzvahs, engagements, upshering, ...
Keep a stash of all different shapes frozen - and add the right decor as the simchas come
The dough also freezes very well

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 cup margarine

  • 1½ cup sugar

  • 3 eggs

  • 2 tsp baking powder

  • 2 Tbsp vanilla sugar

  • 5-6 cup flour

  1. Beat margarine with sugar - WELL. (I find this to improves all cookies)

  2. Add remaining ingredients.

  3. For chocolate cookies substitute some flour with cocoa
(I will do this expecially when I know I wont be prompt with taking them out of the oven)

  4. Optional: puncture holes for ribbon as soon as removed from oven

  5. Optional: Cover with a mixture of icing-sugar mixed with a bit of egg-white and desired coloring - When this dries the cookies look beautiful

This was the perfect basic sugar cookie recipe. It's easy to make, cooked in a few minutes and tasted delicious. Thanks :)
