I got this recipe from my cousin as a Shavous recipe but its such a hit you can make it all year round.
1 package of flaky dough
- CHEESE MIXTURE:
8 oz whipped cream cheese
Â½ cup sugar
1 egg yolk
Â½ Tbsp vanilla sugar
- NUT MIXTURE:
1 cup slivered almonds
1 cup sugar
1 Tbsp vanilla sugar
Divide flaky dough into 2 parts. Roll out each part to a 8x18 inch rectangle. Refrigerate for 1/2 hour.
Combine cheese mixture and nut mixture separately. Smear half the cheese mixture on one dough. Sprinkle half the nut mixture on top of cheese mixture.
Place the second dough on top of the first and repeat instructions. (The order- dough, cheese, nut, dough, cheese, nut)
Cut thin and long stripes (from the short side). Take two end twist to form a twist and then form pretzels.
Bake for 20 minutes on 350 -watch pretzels carefully they shouldn't burn.
Freeze well. Serve at room temperature or cold with confectioner's sugar sprinkled on top.
