My sisters serve it hot as a side dish by the meat course.
One shabbos day I had some surprise guests and needed an extra salad by the fish course. My husband pulled out the leftovers of this from Friday night. We served it cold. It was such a hit!
Now I make it as a cooked salad by the fish.
2 Tbsp oil
1 pinch salt & pepper
2 tsp sugar
7 oz tomato sauce
Peel and slice onion into half rings.
Peel and slice zucchini very thin.
Heat up oil in pan.
Sautee the onions and zucchini until transluscent.
Add salt, pepper and sugar to taste.
(amounts above are estimates. I just pour.)
Add tomato sauce.
Mix and simmer a few minutes until zucchini cooked all the way and sauce blended in well.
Serve hot or cold.
