I posted a recipe of royal icing cookies Recipe #956
Some tips I learned:

1. It's easy to wipe off the icing when it's wet and restart.
2. If you are working with 2 colors, it's best if you let one color dry overnight b4 you do the next.
3. You must make sure the mixer is completely clean and dry before making the icing. If you prepare your icing right after making the cookie dough then the oil left in the mixing bowl ruins the icing.

Good luck and let me know if you need any other advice.

Thanks!
By looking at the pictures of your beautiful cookies it seems that you did not make a border of icing before filling/flooding the entire cookie. How do you keep the icing from spreading too far off the cookie? Do you just not water down the icing too much?

I outlined it. If you do it the same color you can't tell. You can't really do it without outlining it.

Btw you only need a drop water to water it down.

Mimi, I didn't use your recipe for the icing or the cookies (sorry).
I got a healthier version instead of using raw eggs for the icing, to use meringue powder. It can be bought in the Peppermill and they give you a recipe along with it.
